TEWKESBURY SWIMMING CLUB

Competitions

Swimmers can compete at a variety of levels throughout their journey with TSC.

You will receive an email inviting your swimmer to enter in the appropriate galas (entries via the SportsEngine Motion app).

Junior fun galas are held with other local clubs and help newer club members to learn the rules of competitive swimming in a relaxed environment.  Swimmers will gain experience of the procedural elements of a gala including warm up, marshalling (getting to their race), starts (using diving blocks, if appropriate, under the Starter’s command) and finishes (including exiting the water in the correct manner), as well as supporting the rest of the team and following coach and team manager instructions.

More information about the Junior fun galas is available here.

Licensed Meets are held under certain conditions prescribed by Swim England.  Times recorded at these meets are officially listed on the Swim England website and can be used as entry times for other meets.  There are different levels of licensed meet depending on the standard of competition, the timing system used, the pool size or the number and qualifications of officials.  Fees are payable to enter licensed meets.  Events in 25m pools are ‘short-course’, events in 50m pools are ‘long-course’.

The TSC Club Championships are Level 4 meets, the first level of licensed meets.  Times recorded at Level 4 can be used as qualifying times for the County Championships and entry times for Open Meets.

More information about the Club Championships is available here.

Gloucester County Championships are usually held in Bristol in January/February each year.  They are Level 3 meets and only open to members of GCASA clubs.  Swimmers must achieve a minimum entry standard.  Information is available on the GCASA website and TSC will advise you if your swimmer is eligible to enter.  More information about the County Championships is available here.

Open Meets are usually also Level 3 and are run by clubs for commercial purposes.  Swimmers from any club can enter.  TSC will look to enter 3 or 4 Open Meets per year.

Times obtained at Level 3 meets, during a specific qualification window, can be used as qualifying times for the South West Regional Summer or Winter Championships, usually held at Millfield School and Plymouth.  They are Level 2 meets. Swimmers must achieve a minimum entry standard.  Information is available on the SESW website and TSC will advise you if your swimmer is eligible to enter.

More information about the Regional Championships is available here.

Swim England National events are Level 1 meets.  Swimmers must achieve a minimum entry standard.  Information is available on their website and TSC will advise you if your swimmer is eligible to enter.  Swimmers with dual membership or affiliation to other governing bodies, e.g. Swim Wales, may be eligible to enter similar events in other countries.
